Montville High XC Canopy Tent

Dear MHS Cross-Country Alumni and Family of Alums,

Look around Montville, CT and you’ll see many of Montville High School Cross-Country (XC) runners hitting the roads as they prepare for the 2018 season. We have a talented group returning, along with several strong newcomers. Both squads head into the season with targets at Divisional Titles.  The last time each team took the title was 1983 (girls) and 1988 (boys).   2017 was the first time in over 15 years we had both squads finish in the top 10 at the ECC Championships concurrently. We even had our first individual ECC Champion in 30 years. We are growing and rapidly becoming a team to contend with.  MHS XC is well on its way to becoming a conference powerhouse once again.

Since I returned to MHS as a coach in 2015, the team has experienced phenomenal growth.  In 2015 we barely had enough runners to field scoring varsity squads.  As we head into this fall, our roster looks to exceed 35 runners.  Much of this growth may be linked to the popularity of team building activities:  Pasta Dinners, Pancake Breakfast, Corn maze Run, Fire & Ice Zip line, etc.

Over the last couple of seasons, we have begun to look more like a competitive team.  We have a pop-up tent, foam rollers, stretch ropes, folding bench seating, and new matching uniforms.   We have even started to venture out of state for the first time in several decades by competing at the prestigious Ocean State Invite in Rhode Island.

While we love to experience such phenomenal growth, we have quickly outgrown the 10x10 team pop-up tent.  We are looking to add a larger 10’x20’ canopy tent, complete with our team logo and side covers to shelter us from the harshest conditions.  Each year we raise enough in fundraisers to cover the team building activities and small equipment purchases, and will do so again this year.  To help us look the part of a powerhouse program, I am turning to the alumni and families for help to offset the cost of the larger canopy tent separately.  This year’s goal is to raise $3,500 through donations for the new tent.  I will personally contribute $500 to get this started. We need your help to finish this campaign in August, before the season starts.

We have started this GoFundMe page to help coordinate the fundraiser.  Your contributions, no matter how big or small, matter to us.  Please consider helping the team out.
