I am Elijah Montoya, son of Jesus Anthony Montoya. My father was a great man who cared for everyone he met. He impacted those around him and was always there when needed. My father was a veteran who served his country and continuously inspired me and my brother throughout his life. He truly was our superhero.

Only being 58 at his time of death, my father was young but had already endured plenty, suffering three strokes in the past. Being the strong and resilient man he was, he recovered and strengthened himself, though he was never the same. He spent the past six months fighting a super rare infectious disease, going in and out of a variety of rehabs and emergency rooms, hoping to recover. While at one of those rehab centers, he was exposed even further to a fungal infectious disease, all of which impacted his condition and ultimately contributed to his death.
