The For over 10 years, Monticello 2nd Chance Fur Dogs has been dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs in need. We’ve been honored to work alongside the caring people in our community, providing a safe haven for lost, abandoned, abused, and neglected animals. However, through no fault of our own, we are facing the heartbreaking reality of losing the shelter that we worked so hard to renovate and have long depended on in our mission to help the dogs in our area and to be their voice.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the city shelter, which has served as a lifeline for well over 10,000 dogs, is no longer available to us. Our local government’s decision to take away the shelter that we have relied on for so long and has been essential in everything we have done as a dog rescue, has left us in a very difficult position and in urgent need of a new space as soon as possible. This does not mean we are giving up. We can’t and we won’t! But, if we are to continue saving puppies and dogs in our area, providing help to the people of our community, we are going to need your help. There are no other animal rescues that serve Monticello and/or Drew County, so, there would be no way the dogs would be able to receive any kind of help they deserve without us.

Our mission has always been to provide rescue and care to ALL dogs in need. We are extremely proud of the lives we’ve saved, the families we’ve helped create, and the differences we’ve made, but we can’t continue to do it alone. The longer we go without a shelter to house the dogs and continued funding, many dogs will lose their chance to be saved.

We are trying to explore any and all options available to us and have been blessed to have received an offer of one acre of land, on which we can build a new shelter.

Your donation will go directly towards:

• the construction of a new shelter, in the most economical way

• any and all medical care, including vaccinations and heartworm prevention and/or treatment, and rehabilitation for the dogs in our care

• operational costs to keep our mission going

Our need is very urgent and every dollar counts. With your much appreciated help, we can and will continue to rescue dogs, provide them with the love and care they need and deserve, and will do our best to find them their forever homes with a loving family. We would like for everyone to know that we are committed to our cause and helping the people and animals of our community.
