Salutations!!
My name is Jenna Wazny and I’m raising funds to continue my path in Peace Education in Montessori.
For as long as I can remember, my draw and connection to children has driven me to work with them in many facets, including nannying, babysitting, working at various childcare facilities, teaching English in Thailand, volunteering at schools/centers around the world before pursuing my own education. I have so loved all these opportunities to guide and love children, and it was a natural progression to want to make that love my life’s work.
I attained my AMI Montessori certification from Montessori Northwest in Portland, Oregon, as well as my Masters in Education from Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland in 2013. After teaching for a year in Portland, I received the amazing opportunity to start a brand new classroom in Bend, Oregon, where I am in my 5th year as a Lead Guide at Deschutes River Montessori School.
As with many professions, I am required to obtain Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) every year to uphold my credentials and education. Because I work for a very small school, funds for these CEUs come directly from my own income, which I complete each year and use to aid my work with the children.
This upcoming year, I would love to attend the AMI refresher course in February (here’s a link: https://amiusa.org/2019-refresher-course/ ). I’ve yet to attend one of these, and I am eager to spend multiple days with other educators, absorbing all I can to bring back to my classroom, and my community. I truly believe this is SUCH important work: guiding children to confidence, independence and concentration through Peace Education.
I’m hoping to gain support for the refresher course, as it is out of my limited teacher income, even with my two additional part-time jobs. The funds from this campaign would help me with these expenses:
~Refresher Course: $460
~AMI Membership: $75
~CEUs: $25
~Flights: $547
~Transportation: $75
~Lodging: $1078.71
TOTAL: $2260
I believe that attending this event can have lasting benefits in so many ways. A renewed vigor and appreciation for the Montessori method and Peace Education will not only serve my own continued education experience but also all the children and families with whom I spend my days and share my community.
Being a teacher has a beautiful ripple-out effect, and the love and energy I give to the children each and every day manifests in their lives and with all they encounter. I truly feel this is the way to heal our world... through love, peace and education. This work is such a gift, and I feel so grateful for all your continued love and support!!!
