A Gift of Life: Help Us Through Our Kidney Transplant Journey

On July 13, I will have the incredible honor of donating one of my kidneys to my husband of 24 years. After a year and half of facing health challenges together, we have been blessed with the opportunity to give him a renewed chance at life through living kidney donation.

While we are grateful beyond words, this journey comes with significant financial challenges. Both of us will be out of work during recovery, which is expected to last 8–10 weeks for Monte and hopefully only 2-4 weeks for me. Although we have short-term disability benefits, many expenses associated with the transplant process are not covered by insurance.

For the next several weeks, we will travel to Raleigh multiple times each week for medical appointments, follow-up care, and monitoring. In addition to transportation costs, we are facing expenses related to meals, medications, household needs, and the daily support required during our recovery. We are also relying heavily on the kindness of family and friends to help with cooking, cleaning, driving, and caregiving as we heal.

Asking for help is never easy, but we know that community is one of God’s greatest blessings. If you feel led to support us financially, no donation is too small, and every contribution will help ease the burden during this season. This surgery represents more than a medical procedure it represents hope, more time together, and the opportunity to continue building memories with our children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
