Hi, my name is Dori, and this is our sweet pup, Montana. We're trying to raise money for her upcoming knee surgery. She is a 6 year-old Black Mouth Cur shelter rescue originally from Gainesville, FL. She is a gentle, patient, loyal, and energetic member of our family, and a loving best-friend/big sister to our 4 year-old daughter. Montana has a contagious smile, an obsession with treats, grunts like a piglet when she’s excited, and often gives up her bed for the cat. She loves to run, jump, explore trails at the park, stalking squirrels and gopher tortoises, roll in the dirt, and enjoys play dates with other dogs. She is an indoor dog with an outdoor spirit.
Montana frolicking before her injury
She recently tore her ACL/CCL (ligament) in her knee and requires surgery to fix it in order to return to normal life. Until then, she is only using three of her legs to walk, struggles to get around, and her body is not able to keep up with what her excitable spirit wants to do. I captured a glimpse of this in one of the videos (see below). It breaks our hearts to see her like this. She is such a gentle soul, that she was even wagging her tail and giving kisses during her veterinary exams and tests. Nonetheless, having torn my own ACL, I know first-hand it is very painful and debilitating without repair. We’ve consulted with a veterinary surgeon, and the estimate for her surgery is $5,200-$6,000 (see photo of estimate at the end). She is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday Jan 6, 2021. From then, she will have a few re-checks and undergo 8 weeks of physical therapy/rehab with us here at home and is expected to make a full recovery to normal activities thereafter, including running and jumping.
Montana has shown our family so much love and devotion, and we feel we owe it to her to get the surgery she needs to live a normal happy life again. 2020 was a tough year for most, and we find it difficult to cover the cost of Montana’s surgery, especially after major unexpected home repairs this year. If you can contribute anything at all- big or small, we would greatly appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. And if not, we still appreciate you reading about our sweet Montana’s story.
Cheers to a healthy and happy New Year for all,
-Dori Cowan & Brandon Jett
