Friends and family,
Before sitting down and figuring out what to say in this short blurb, I was just thinking about how truly thankful I am for each and every single one of you. I am grateful for the love and support you have sent my way over the past 21 years. I honestly do not know how I got so lucky to have the people that I have in my life and I can promise you that it does not go unnoticed.
For those of you who do not know, I attend Azusa Pacific University and I will be graduating May 7th, 2016. I am majoring in liberal studies with a concentration in special education and have developed a deep love for ministry. This past summer I had the opportunity to serve within the Junior High Ministry (JHM) at Saddleback Church and I absolutely loved every second of it. I was able to plan several events, do baptism and volunteer interviews, have one-on-ones with so many of our students and volunteers, plan and host a weekend service, and simply just have fun and be silly with our junior highers. It was during this internship that I realized my deep passion and desire to do youth ministry.
Recently, I was offered a year long internship with the JHM team and, after much prayer and processing, I have accepted it! I could not tell you how excited I am to begin this season of life and to learn more about youth ministry. This internship will begin in May 2016 and will provide me with the opportunity to learn more about what it means to work within youth ministry. I believe that since God has called me into ministry, it is my job to learn and equip myself to be the best youth pastor I can be.
Junior highers deal with a lot more than meets the eye. Junior high is when reality begins to emerge; Making life issues prevalent and real. It is a time when one starts processing through their character, values, morals, identity, and life circumstances. I believe that it is a youth minister’s job to step into their world of insecurities, strained friendships, temptations, problems with family members at home, academics, classroom crushes, and the wonderment of there being such a thing as too much Axe body spray. I want to change the hearts and minds of others by showing them that junior highers are fun, silly, and full of life. They are more than just the lost generation.
I believe that God gives each life a purpose within His plan. Out of seven billion people on this planet, I am only one of them. Therefore, I want to live a life that will make an impact on at least one person. An impact that will shine the light of Christ on the community that surrounds me, while breaking down that one person to feel the need for Jesus. This is in hope that a domino effect will be created.
Here's where you come in...
This internship is unpaid and I will have no other income due to the fact that I will be working full-time, six days a week. One thing I know for sure is that I cannot do this next season of life without the emotional, spiritual, and financial support of my friends and family!
