My name is Steven “Aiden” Milam aka “Monster” and I am writing this letter to ask for your consideration in sponsoring me to make my dreams come true this summer and attend the USSSA All American Games August 2-7, 2015. I am 10 years old and have lived in Las Cruces my entire life. I have been playing baseball since I was 18 months old and play currently for the 11U Las Cruces Yankees and 12U Sun City Blast in El Paso, Texas.
Ever since I was little, all I ever wanted to do was play baseball. I love being at the fields, either playing or watching games. Often times you can find me in the outfield at a ballpark playing a pick up game of baseball with other kids. My dream is to play high school baseball, play college baseball and if I am lucky enough get called up to play in the MLB. It’s a big goal but I believe that anything is possible if you believe and work hard for it.
Last year I heard about the USSSA All American Games and for my Christmas Wish List I asked my parents for the opportunity to attend a try-out. They surprised me and told me that they were going to take me to Denver, Colorado for the tryout but also told me that I needed to work hard and earn it. I practice almost everyday, whether it’s with my Dad, my Mom, my Grandparents or my Coaches. I’ve been working on improving all parts of my game- fielding, hitting, pitching and catching. I don’t practice because I have too, I practice because I love too and it’s what I love doing.
In May I went to the tryouts and I really didn’t know what to think- I was nervous but I gave it 100%. After the try out I was announced as the Denver Top Performer for 10U, however that didn’t guarantee a spot on the national team. On June 24th, my family got together to watch the live announcement of the rosters being released and I was chosen as the #1 pick for the Midwest Regional Team. I am excited, grateful and blessed that all my hard work and dedication has paid off and I have been granted this opportunity to go play baseball at the National level.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel with teams and just last summer got to go to the AABC Willie Mays World Series in Puerto Rico with the Las Cruces Yankees. This is the first time that I did something individually, I won’t have my team and my Coaches there with me so I intend to make them proud of me! This is something I wanted to do to see if I could compete with kids my age across the Country, and I made it!
There are 15 spots on the USSSA All American Midwest Regional Team and I have been selected as their starting short stop and pitcher. The All American Games have been created to allow the top 15 players in each of the 8 regions to compete against each other on a national stage. I will be representing my Team, my League, my Hometown and State at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in August. I am the first player out of New Mexico to be chosen to participate at this event and I hope that it inspires other players in my community to try out next year and aim high with their baseball goals and dreams. The Midwest Region that I am representing is made up of the following States: Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, North and West Texas and Western Missouri.
As a kid I am excited and looking forward to playing baseball, but I also realize that this trip costs money. I am grateful for all that my parents do for me and my sister to support us with all our sport activities, they always find a way to make sure that my sister, me and my team have what we need and never go without. However this is another last minute trip that my parents are planning now that I made the team. I am asking friends and family for any donations and/or sponsorships to help cover my travel expenses to get to Florida this summer!
Thank you!
