We're at it again and hope with your support, to continue to help local families battling cancer.

In the Monster and Sea tradition, there is no middle man, no red tape. All money goes directly to families in need, making a real difference in peoples lives.
Since 2016, I’m proud to say we've helped 20 families in need. Can we help 3 more families this year?

Please read on to find out what inspired this event and how you can help out!

WAIT DON'T SKIP THIS PART! There is an open invitation to anyone that would like to participate and support the team, to join us on the water anytime during our paddle (with appropriate gear), or just swing by to say hello! We are also hoping to get a big group on the water for our final hour from 7-8am on Sunday April 14th to show just how incredible our paddling community is! So load up your gear, set that alarm clock and help us bring this event home (visitors are also welcome any hour of the day and night!)

THE MONSTER & SEA 24 HOUR PADDLE STORY...

In 2015 a group of 6 paddlers from Seattle, WA got together with the idea of paddling for 24 hours relay style. Their goals were modest and simple.
1. Have fun, 2. Inspire our community & 3. Raise some grass roots funds to help families dealing with the chaos that cancer causes.

The event was inspired by one of the members, Troy Nebeker, who himself was in this fight when his wife was diagnosed. From that day forward, he decided we all need to live life to the fullest; go just because we can and give back whenever we can. That was the birth of the organization Monster & Sea - the monster being cancer and the Sea being where he found inspiration and strength - and with it, the first 24 hour paddle for cancer. The plan was to create a grassroots event where every dollar raised was stuffed into an envelope and handed directly to a family in the fight, no middle man.

The team was blown away. Not only did they have fun and rally their community but raised 7,000 by doing what they loved - to benefit others. 7 families each received an envelope of 1,000 cash with a simple note inside: “There is a community of people who love you and are fighting for you.”

The second year the 24 moved beyond Seattle to seven cities (one for each envelope from the prior year) across the U.S and Canada. Each team had the same goals. As a combined group we raised 50k. That is 50 families we were able to help.

The third year we grew to 22 teams across North America and as a collective group we raised 145,000.

The fourth year we grew again to 26 cities with multipule teams across the U.S and Canada and raised collectively as a group 156,000.

Now in Year 5 - The wave is forming deep and is gathering great momentum, with 40 teams participating across North America. Can’t wait to see where it takes us.

Seriously, it requires a double take every time. This community is wonderful!!

WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO YOU ASK?

Well, here in Canada we are very lucky to have amazing health coverage to help cover individual treatment expenses, but what is not covered are the additional day to day expenses, the potential loss of income, and all of those things you cannot monetize; stress, anxiety, fear.....they have an even greater cost.
In the Monster & Sea tradition, we will give all funds raised to families in the fight.....in the hopes of providing a break in the chaos.

OUR LOCAL TEAM......

We are honoured to be participating in this event for the fourth year running and to be joining a growing global community of 40 teams!

I think I speak for our whole group when I say that paddling is what we love and what we know how to do; if we can make a difference and give back through our paddling, that is the best gift we could be given. An opportunity to "paddle with a purpose”.

Our goal for this year is to raise $3,000 and help 3 families in need!

Thank you everyone for your generous support! Know that your donations will go to a great place and will make a difference in peoples lives. We truly appreciate all donations but please know, support comes in many shapes and forms so even if you are not able to make a donation, there are many other ways to give! Come paddle, hang out with us or just send a message with your "hoorays"! : )
