Monster and Sea 24 TEAM Nicola Valley 2019

Donation protected

Once again this year, TEAM Nicola Valley will be participating  in the Monster and Sea 24 - a 24-hour relay paddle  on our StandUpPaddle Boards, raising money for local families dealing with cancer.

CANCER IS A TAKER

It wants everything from us - our health our confidence, our families.

And it is relentless. Statistics say 1 in 3 people
will arm wrestle with cancer.

But what about the other 2 people?

Our job is to stand in the gap. Fill that void with love,
compassion and our ability to GO when our friends can’t.  #gobecauseyoucan

THIS IS WHAT THE 24 IS ALL ABOUT.

What cancer can’t touch is our spirit, our drive and our will
to live every day to its fullest potential. We want to
inspire communities to give back in a very grass roots way.

AT OUR CORE, WE BELIEVE THREE VERY KEY THINGS.

1. Help families who are dealing with cancer.

2. Inspire people and communities to not let life pass them by.
Get going - do the things you love.

3. Have fun.

HISTORY:

In the spring of 2015,  6 people got together, in Seattle,  led by our dear friend, Troy Nebeker, with the idea of paddling for24 hours relay style.
The goals were modest and simple.
1. Have fun.
2. Inspire our community.
3. Raise some grass roots funds to help families dealing with the chaos that cancer causes.

Not only did they have fun and rally their community but they raised 7,000.00 by doing what they loved - to benefit others.

Cancer chose the wrong family to mess with, it didn’t have a chance. Monster & Sea  was born in that time. Troy, the man behind the brand, watched and supported his wife Angie as she battled not one, but two forms of cancer simultaneously. They won that fight. The monster was cancer, and the sea was where Troy found inspiration and strength. Troy decided to live life to the fullest every day, and to encourage others to do the same, to Go Because You Can.  Monster & Sea became more than a brand, it became culture, a philosophy, and a force that created a community that reaches across the continent.

The second year the 24 moved beyond Seattle to seven cities (one for each envelope from the prior year) across the U.S and Canada. Each team had the same goals. As a combined group we raised 50k. That is 50 families we were able to help.

The third year the 24 grew to 22 teams across the U.S and Canada and
after all was said and done - as a collective group we raised 145K.

Our fourth year we grew to 26 cities with multipule teams across the
U.S and Canada and after all was said and done - as a collective
group we raised 156K.

The Nicola Valley Team is extremely humbled and feel very privaliged to be a part of this wonderful community,  The Monster and Sea 24 /////.

YEAR 5

This is a significant number. In the cancer process year 5 is a beacon of hope. A celebration if you will, of things getting back to normal and a way forward - free from the constant worry.

On April 13 / 14  2019 - There will be 40 plus teams that will join Seattle from across the US, Canada and the Caman Islands. We will all gather together as a community to paddle and say to cancer - "You can't take today. Today is ours."

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

We will give out our donations in $1000 increments to a family in need and how it's used is for the family to decide.  Strictly grass-roots. This isn’t about research, this isn’t about finding a cure, this doesn’t go to a charity. This is cash, in an envelope, put in the hands of folks who need it. It could help pay the utility bills, or buy some groceries, or maybe take the family away for a weekend, to get a break from the chaos.

Thank you everyone for your generous support; please know that your donations will go to a great place and will make a difference in peoples lives.  Support comes in many forms,  so if you are unable to make a donation,  we welcome you to come out and join us for paddle around the lake. We would love to have you join us. If you are unable to jon us on the water, please come hang out with us, say hi and help keep the stoke going for 24 hours in an effort to raise some much needed funds!
