Hola,

Mi nombre es Monserrat Olivares y tengo 10 años. El 20 de diciembre mis padres me llevaron al Hospital de Niños. Me han diagnosticado con leucemia linfocítica aguda. El 21 de diciembre recibí una transfusión de sangre. Durante las próximas semanas, me sometieron a quimioterapia semanal, biopsias de médula ósea, numerosos esteroides, medicamentos para el estómago y antibióticos. La quimioterapia me ha hecho perder fuerza en las piernas, por lo que ha sido difícil caminar y moverme. Estoy esperando ser transferida a un centro de rehabilitación, pero mis padres están esperando la aprobación de mi seguro. Sin embargo, mi seguro no quiere cubrir el centro de rehabilitación. Una vez que recibamos la aprobación y entre en el centro de rehabilitación continuaré visitando el Hospital de Niños
para recibir quimioterapia según sea necesario.


Debido a estas circunstancias repentinas mi familia ahora está luchando financialmente. Mi padre ya no trabaja porque tiene que cuidar a mis dos hermanos mientras mi madre se queda conmigo en el hospital. Las cuentas se están acumulando y los gastos de transporte han sido difíciles de cubrir. El unico carro de mi papa fue forzado y dañado en el estacionamiento de el hospital. Ya no es manejable y el seguro no quiere cubrir ninguno de los daños. Este carro ha sido el único método de transporte hacia y desde el hospital.

Pasamos cada día con esperanza. Esa esperanza proviene de los médicos, enfermeras, personal del Hospital de Niños y lo más importante de Dios.

Pido sus donaciones para que mis padres puedan seguir apoyando financialmente el bienestar de mis hermanos, cuentas y gastos aquí en el hospital.

Mi viaje será largo y difícil, pero estoy lista para pelear esta batalla con mi familia a mi lado. Deseo vivir porque tengo muchos planes para mi futuro y la Leucemia no me detendrá.

Hi,

My name is Monserrat Olivares and I am 10 years old. On December 20th my parents rushed me to Children's Hospital. I have been diagnosed with Acute lymphocytic leukemia. On December 21st I received a blood transfusion. Over the next few weeks, I underwent weekly chemotherapy, bone-marrow biopsies, numerous steroids, stomach medication and many other antibiotics. The chemotherapy has caused me to lose strength in my legs so it has been difficult to walk and move. I'm waiting to get transferred to a rehabilitation center either in DC or Baltimore but my parents are waiting approval from my insurance. However, my insurance does not want to cover the rehabilitation center. Once we receive the approval and I enter the rehabilitation center I will continue to visit Children's Hospital to receive chemotherapy as needed. 

Due to these sudden circumstances my family is now struggling financially. My father is no longer working  because he has to care for my two siblings while my mother stays with me in the hospital. The bills are piling up and the commute expenses have been difficult to manage. My fathers only working car was broken into in the hospitals parking garage. It is no longer drivable and the insurance does not want to cover any of the damages. This car has been the only method of transportation to and from the hospital. 

We get through each day with hope. That hope comes from the doctors, nurses, staff at Children's Hospital, and most important from God. 

I ask for your donations so that my parents can continue to financially support the well-being of my siblings, bills, and the expenses here at the hospital. 

My journey will be long and difficult but I am ready to fight this battle with my family by my side.  I wish to live because I have many plans for my future and Leukemia will not stop me.
