Monroy Family vs Breast Cancer!

You never think this will happen to you, even though you have seen and been through friends and family that have been here. We thought this would never happen to us, But here we are!

But how did we get here:

In November 2020 I lost my job of 7+ years due to Covid and my physical disability which has caused me the inability to work. I've applied for Social Security & am currently awaiting an appeal.

In March I went in for a routine woman's exam, at which time I was given the paperwork for a mamogram. The mamogram came back abnormal and I was then sent in for a ultrasound and another mamogram in June. The results of this too was abnormal. I was then immediately scheduled for a biopsy of my right breast and of course this too came back abnormal & I was then diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (Stage 1 Breast Cancer).

Long Story short friends, now with all the specialist and such it is getting difficult to make ends meet for our family with just normal daily expenses. Any and All donations will be used for Gasoline, Medical Co-Pays, and Household Bills to keep the utilities on.

Any & All Donations left over will be donated to the Susan G. Coleman Foundation!

We will continue to keep each and everyone updated with progress! (As of right now: I have two appointments upcoming on the 9th for testing and with the breast surgeon.)

First, I would like to sincerely say thank you to each one of you that have donated or shared my story.

Just a quick update on Tuesday 7/6/21 I went in for an endometrial biopsy to check for abnormal cells in my uterus we hope to have results early next week. On Friday 7/9/21 We went to the genetics counselor they were highly informative there is a company named Invitae that does the genetic testing, but our insurance does not cover this.

We are looking for a gene mutation called BRCA, this is the gene Angelina Jolene had that caused her to do a preventive Mastectomy and ovaries removed this test for 61 different types of cancer, but our insurance company does not cover genetic testing.

Thankfully Invitae offers low-cost testing for those without insurance coverage. Your donations covered the cost of the testing. We should have some results in 7-10 days then the remaining results in 4-6 weeks.

We also went to the breast surgeon on Friday, she is looking to do a mastectomy of my right breast due to the size and location of the cancer it would not allow for just a lumpectomy. The risk level for my left breast to develop this same type of cancer is extremely high so we have opted for a double mastectomy to avoid this roller coaster they call cancer again.

We have a follow up with the Breast Surgeon in mid-August as we wait for the results of all the testing plus any additional testing that they want to do since the insurance denied the CT/PET Scan too, fortunately there are other test that can be done in this situation that is covered by insurance.

A special thanks to Degenerate 2018 and Atomic Monkii for all their fundraising, but an incredibly special thanks goes out to each and everyone of you following our story.
