The owner of Mono Diner, a restaurant in Georgetown on Wisconsin Ave, has been engaging in systemic wage theft against his employees to the tune of over $6000 and possibly much more. The owner has shorted people on their paychecks multiple times. When people quit he has refused to pay them their last paycheck and when he does it is often much lower than what it should be; sometimes even below the minimum wage. He has refused to address these issues when approached multiple times by multiple people. There is no excuse for a business to not pay people for the work they do. Now without warning the owner has shutdown the business.
This has caused real harm to both current and former employees at Mono Diner. Some have had their living situations put in jeopardy. Some have even had to move hundreds of miles away from their families because they simply can't afford to live in the area anymore. This is an expensive area and when your boss is stealing from you it has real consequences on your ability to live. Let's show them some solidarity!
While we have successfully pressured the owner to payback stolen wages to one former worker, there are many others who have still yet to receive what is legally theirs and they are suffering because of it. Some have filed official complaints with the appropriate agencies but these often take months to process and these workers need help now. Please donate to this fund to help the people who have been harmed by these cruel and illegal activities.
