CALLING ALL ANTONIO/MONKEY LOVERS: Let’s buy him NEW EARS FOR A NEW YEAR, and give him the gift of seamless hearing!
After meeting Antonio “Monkey” Carito, you will quickly learn that he is one of the most generous, resourceful, and magnanimous people on the planet. Although he’s a great listener, you might also know that he can’t hear so well.
As his partner, I can say first-hand that it can be really frustrating – even demoralizing – for him to navigate spaces efficiently, and soak in information without having to ask someone to repeat themselves or to turn up the volume. This can be debilitating for him, whether holding a conversation outdoors or in a loud environment, watching media, trying to fully enjoy the events he helps coordinate, or even while having a quiet conversation. Of course, thanks to Mx. Rona, interpreting speech through a mask has been an added accessibility challenge.
He’s been tangled up in ridiculous expenses on the home front for the past few years, with very little time for himself, or socializing with his beloved communities. Having to finally concede and cancel his birthday celebration was a major blow because he just wants to create joyous space for his people. Can we, his people, commemorate this birthday passed, by giving him the gift of hearing? I need your (surprise) help to make this dream a reality!
Hearing aids don’t run cheap! I did some covert detective work on pricing & technology options: It will cost approximately $6000 total to get hearing aids with the amount of correction required to let Antonio hear the light fully for the first time, and live his best life going forward.
