Hello. My name is Dee, and I'm the mother of Monisha Edwards. She is my oldest daughter and the eldest of all of her siblings. Last year, in July 2024, Monisha was diagnosed with stage 3c colorectal cancer, which was very aggressive. Monisha lives in Dallas, and I live in Louisiana, so in a matter of four days, I had packed up and moved to take care of my baby while she received her chemo and radiation treatments. After her treatments were complete, she had her surgery. Once the surgeon went in, she was surprised with an additional tumor sitting directly underneath the main tumor that hadn't been caught on the scans. But, to God I give ALL THE GLORY because at the time, we were told that all the cancer was taken out. After surgery, she had clean up chemo, and then repeated her scans. Because the scans showed up clear, I returned home right after that thinking that everything was okay. I had basically lived with my daughter for a little over a year.
Once her cleanup chemo was completed, her scans showed bad news. A small pea-sized tumor was found in the lining of her intestines, so she was bumped up to stage 4. My heart sank. God is still so good! Her oncologist got her into a clinical trial. The clinical medication has caused some side effects, which have landed her in and out of the hospital, with her recent stay being 2 weeks. As I'm typing this now, she is in the hospital.
My daughter has always been independent, taking care of herself. She is currently on an extended leave from work and does not know when she will be able to return. She continued to work remotely from her diagnosis in July 2024 until March 31, 2025. She is also an entrepreneur and has supplemented her income through her business, which I assisted her in running. We both have had to pause from her business to focus on her beating this cancer. This has caused a major strain on her finances, especially with the recent hospital stays, medical supplies, and doctor's office bills. While I was living with her, she took care of me, her fur baby Harper, and herself. I thank God that she has a friend/sister in town with her that can take care of her when I'm not there.
So, I'm here to ask for help for my daughter because she's not able to work at all right now, and I want her to focus on healing, and not worry about how her bills will get paid simply because she became ill. I also want to help her not fall back into depression because being diagnosed with cancer was by no means her fault. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to my baby's story!
