Monique's Fight Against Colorectal Cancer
Donation protected
Family and Friends of Monique (Momo) Stanfield: Some of you may or may not be aware, my best friend has been battling Ulcerative Colitis and Chrohn's disease since she was 19 years old. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (UC) are two forms of inflammatory bowel disease. Both diseases can be treated, but there is no cure.
After countless inflammations and constant in-patient hospitalizations, Monique's condition finally took a turn for the worse in 2017 resulting in one of our biggest fears...the removal of part of her colon leading to the use of a colostomy bag over the past 3 years.
Initially, medical professionals were hopeful that her colon could heal and planned to reverse the process so that Momo would not be required to use the bag. Fast forward 3 years (2020) and we now have learned that her condition has taken yet another turn for the worse. Recent scans and a colonoscopy exam have revealed that the entire area in her rectum is full of cancerous cells....so many that immediate surgery is necessary. The area where the cancer resides has concerned medical advisors and they have stated that the surgery is complicated to the extent that only the Chief of Surgery will perform the procedure with the anticipation that no major complications will occur during the 5 to 6 hour procedure.
This critical surgery involves removing the entire colon and entire rectum...ultimately crushing all hopes of removing the colonostomy bag. After the surgery, Monique will be required to use the bag for the rest of her life. And although this was very disparaging news for her, Monique is optimistic and hoping for a successful surgery. Momo has a 15 year old daughter and feels she HAS to win this fight for her. Those of us who know Momo know that Michiya is her ENTIRE world and that Michiya gives her the will to fight to live.
As Monique is preparing for a critical fight for her life, I am humbly asking for your help during her recovery. Without this surgery, colorectal cancer is eminent and could lead to certain death. The recovery for the upcoming surgery, which is scheduled for January 15th 2020, is 6 to 8 weeks during which she will not be able to work.
We, as a family, have been able to pull together limited resources of our own to help out and we are asking for your kind donation of any amount to assist Monique and Michiya with basic living expenes (rent, utilities...etc.) Without adequate health care coverage, it is very difficult to stay ahead. Anything you are willing and able to give, I and the Stanfield family are grateful for your contribution. Sincere thanks to you all and please..let us all keep Monique in our thoughts and prayers.
