Monique's MS & NMO Medical fund

Hello friends and family, I need your help!  As if 2020 isn't already bad enough, my sister and brother in law were dealt another blow (or 2) on top of it all.

My dear sister in law, Monique, was diagnose with Multiple Sclerosis after going to the ER on Jan 3rd. She became temporary paralyzed, had an MRI, a spinal tap, and several blood tests. Monique had to wait til April 20th to see a neurologist.

After more testing including an MRI of the brain and spine with and without contrast, another spinal tap, and more blood work, she was told she also has Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMO or NMOSD). This is a very rare disease that aggressively attacks the optic nerves and the spine that can leave you blind and/or paralyzed permanently and life expectancy of 5 years. Only about 4,000 in the USA has this disease.

She was then scheduled to get an infusion at the cancer center 10 days later on July 9th.  Due to Covid, Monique had to do the procedure by herself (no visitors and a 7.5 hour process). The infusion went well, the expected side effects are drowsiness and swelling. She was doing well for a few days afterwards, but started to experience extreme fatigue, dizziness, nerve pain on her spine and legs, and optic pains again. Most days she uses a cane or walker, but some days she needs to use a wheelchair to get around. Her husband, Paul, has been taking care of his extremely sick wife, the kids, household, his job and everything Monique used to do. Monique has been very strong throughout this ordeal, but Paul has been her rock to lean on. She is now on several medication to slow down the disease, the attacks on her sight and spine and nerves. Due to Covid and Monique's compromised immune system, they can't have any visitors to help in the house and have to be very careful when running errands.

The infusions and other medical treatments to help Monique survive will be immense and I would gracefully ask of you to consider donating to the fund, so that Monique can focus on healing, Paul doesn't have to carry the financial burden all alone and the kids see that, even though 2020 SUCKS & our new normal is NOT normal, people will come together and care for one another.

Much love,
