It’s shocking and awful to have to write something like this and I know the world is shocked and heartbroken with me.

As you all know, Mon was a fearless advocate for justice. In recent years, her attention had turned to the fight against corruption in Ecuador. Her death has left not only those who loved her devastated, but she leaves behind a loyal community of activists and truth-seekers. The circumstances surrounding her passing are deeply troubling and are currently under investigation by local authorities.

Many of you will have been lucky enough to know her personally, others will have heard stories, seen her work, crossed paths with someone whose life she touched or simply felt the massive impact she had on the world around her.

Wherever she went, she left an impression. Through her travels, her friendships, her work, her activism, and countless acts of kindness, she connected with thousands of people across the world. The outpouring of grief and love since her passing is a testament to the extraordinary person she was.

The funds raised will help support the immediate practical and logistical costs facing the family during this incredibly difficult time. Mon leaves behind two beautiful young daughters and any money remaining will be placed into a dedicated account for the girls, helping them to provide security, opportunities and support for the years ahead -something we know Mon would have wanted
