I invite you to help make a huge difference in the life of my friend Monica Manriquez. After being treated for years for liver cancer, Monica underwent a liver transplant at Stanford Medical Center on July 29, 2024. The past five months have been a roller coaster of ups and downs, complications, and slow steps forward. She requires kidney dialysis 3 times a week. She has been hospitalized the majority of the time over the past five months. She had a couple of stays in rehab facilities, and two very brief stays at home, only to be hospitalized again after each. She was finally discharged to go home on January, 7, 2025. The hope is that she will begin to grow stronger with in-home care, physical and occupational therapy and be able to stay at home. This journey has been exhausting for her and her family, and has created great expenses. One of her greatest needs right now is for her home to have some much-needed updates and renovations to make it accessible, safe and comfortable for her as she begins the long road to recovery. She will be using a wheelchair at home for the foreseeable future. Monica is a retired teacher and her husband Marcos is a pastor of a small church. The last few years have been difficult for them as she has gotten treatment for her liver cancer. There are many things that need to be updated in their home so that she can have a safe and comfortable environment for her recovery. The cost will be great.
