Monica's Major Breast Cancer Battle

My name is Monica Major, and I am the loving mother of an amazing 11-year-old boy and 7 wonderful animals. I have dedicated my life to caring for the people and animals around me. Throughout my life, I have had the pleasure of caring for, rescuing, and fostering countless animals before and during my career as a Veterinary Technician.

Earlier this year, as I was helping my dad through his cancer diagnosis, I found a lump in my breast that has been diagnosed as Stage 3 Breast cancer. I have been advised by my Oncology team that I should not continue to work in my field while going through chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation due to the high risk of injury and infection in my line of work. My partner has already started picking up additional work to help with the financial strain, but has not been enough to compensate for the loss of my income.

Update 12/13/23: I have received 3/4 of my chemo treatments so far. Overall I have not had any severe side effects and most of the minor ones are well managed. I still have a good appetite and have been doing crafts and small projects around the house with what little energy I have.

Any money donated will be used to help us continue to pay for our bills, childcare, transportation for treatment, medical bills, and feed us and our animals. ~ The animals we have are a Cat, Dog, Box Turtle, Bearded Dragon, Leopard Gecko, and 2

Crested Geckos. Names in order are Max, Derby, Flash, Cocoa, Mushu, Jasmine, and

Naveen.

~ All are rescue animals in one way or another except the 2 Cresties.

~ My dad's cancer is Pancreatic cancer (unsure what stage) and it was diagnosed early 2023.

~ Part of the financial strain is that shortly before I got my diagnosis, I drove down to Arizona to

spend a month helping my dad.

~ My employer does not offer short term disability.
