Monica's Madness Medical Bills Fundraiser

Hello - My name is Crystal Matthews and I'm fundraising for Monica Martin, a wild and free always smiling, loving and caring woman. I could use several characters to describe her but want to focus the text on the reason behind this campaign.

 

Almost 2 months ago Monica received the call that everyone fears! Ms. Martin, you have Cancer!

 

She started the process, and it's a process, of CT scans, biopsies, specialist appointments, PET scans and blood work that went on for over a month before her final diagnosis was provided. Monica was diagnosed with TWO separate cancers. She is fighting advanced stage 3 non small cell adenocarcinoma lung cancer and HPV Mediated Squamous cell carcinoma at the base of her tongue and right side lymph node.

 

Initially Monica's treatment consisted of just Chemo to which she has completed her 4th treatment just this week. Since receiving the news of the 2nd cancer, she will now also need targeted radiation on both areas affected by cancer. Chemo is scheduled every Tuesday for 9 weeks total. Radiation is scheduled daily, Monday - Friday for the next 7 weeks on her lung/chest and began yesterday. She will have a pause in radiation for 1-2 weeks then begin radiation on her head/neck for another 7 weeks. These next few months will be quite the challenge for her and Don.

 

To date the amount billed to her insurance is sitting over $150,000! And this is just the beginning! Each Chemo treatment is $15,000.

 

We don't get to choose what life throws at us, only choose how we face those challenges. As family and friends, it's important for us to show our support in helping aide in Monica's fight now knowing what she is facing! Medical expenses should be the last thing on her mind as her focus should be on keeping her Mental Health strong and positive through this fight!
