Monica's Healing and Recovery Fund

On Friday, August 23, Monica was checked into the emergency room after suffering a major thrombotic stroke. Despite their best efforts, doctors were unable to remove the blood clot from her brain. She is currently undergoing medical care to treat the underlying cause and the resulting symptoms.

Her memory, speech, vision and movement in certain parts of her body were impacted. She is working very hard to relearn and regain the impacted functions but may face long-term deficits in those areas.

Monica is someone who fills the world with light, love and laughter. She is still very much the Monica we know and love. Through all of the grueling testing, imaging, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, she attacks every day with a positive attitude -- and a completely intact sense of humor. Messages, love and support from the people who care about her mean the world to her and her family.

What comes next is still coming into focus. To combat the cause of the stroke, major heart surgery will likely be necessary, followed by long-term rehabilitation and care.
