Help Monica Dickinson Cover Living Expenses

Donation protected
5 months ago, on October 11, 2018, Monica Dickinson was rear-ended in a high-speed motor vehicle accident on Interstate 35 North on her way home from work.

As a result of the accident, she sustained a severe concussion and whiplash injuries. This has turned into Post Concussion Syndrome which involves: migraines, nausea, sensitivity to light and noise, dizziness and disorientation, feelings of being overwhelmed by day to day tasks and life, cognitive impairment, inability to make decisions, memory issues, slow mental processing, lack of working memory, and vision impairments (eyes no longer working together or sending info to the brain for processing). Her brain's filters are currently not working properly. She sees, hears, and smells everything that is going on around her all at once and cannot decipher what not to pay attention to causing sensory overload. Due to these symptoms, driving is impossible as well as teaching 5 year-olds, or coaching, or even something as simple as going to the store for groceries.

Due to the Post Concussion Syndrome, she has not been able to return to work as a Begindergarten teacher and Varsity Girls Basketball Coach/Track Coach since the accident and has not received wages since December 15, 2018. She has attempted several times to sit in her classroom and observe the class for short periods of time. The last attempt resulted in a 3 week migraine and caused a relapse and increased her symptoms.

She has a wonderful team of doctors and therapists helping her work through this tragedy. They are optimistic for at least a 90% recovery. However, they cannot put a time frame on the recovery. Everyone's brain heals at a different rate. Travel to therapy and doctors appointments two days a week or more, as well as the normal cost of living, is difficult when you are not bringing in a paycheck. This also makes it difficult to focus on recovery.

Funds will be used to pay her monthly mortgage, utility bills, gas money and groceries. Her bare-bones monthly living expenses are $2000.00 and we would like to cover 7 months to allow her to pursue recovery without having to worry about survival.

There is also a need for drivers to therapy on Monday afternoons. For inquiries about volunteering to drive on Mondays, please click the email link next to the name Alli Long under the Donate Now button.

Donations can also be made in the form of Casey's giftcards, Aldi giftcards, and Fareway giftcards.  Giftcards can be mailed to:
