For most people entering their 50th year, the time is marked by family, friends, and all the excitement of celebrating a milestone birthday. This was no different for Monica Rangel, who was grateful to celebrate after a tumultuous year. A little over a year ago, Monica was diagnosed with breast cancer. To treat the diagnosis, she underwent several surgeries to remove multiple tumors.

It was a very trying time for Monica and her family, as she had to take time away from work and her family due to many doctor appointments, testing, treatments, and surgeries. When she could not work, her family was forced to rely solely on the income of her husband, Alfonso. Coupled with the support of their extended family, Monica, Alfonso, and their children were able to manage the initial rounds of treatments.

Unfortunately, Monica's 50th birthday was marred by the discovery of new breast masses. Further testing showed that the cancer had returned even more aggressively than before. As a result, her treatment team determined that a mastectomy was the best course of action. On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, Monica underwent the procedure. While her treatment team is hopeful following the surgery, there is a long road to recovery. Upon her discharge, Monica will spend the next 6 to 8 weeks at home recovering. During this time she will continue attending appointments, receiving additional testing and continuing the fight.

This is where we come in. Monica has done so much for those in her life, it is time for us to try and give something back. We are asking for contributions from family, friends, and anyone who can donate. Our aim is to collect $5000 to cover household and medical expenses for the duration of her recovery.
