Monica Mary Mannering (nee Latimer), passed away during the early hours of Monday 22nd June 2026.

She was a loving Mother, Sister, Nan, Great-Nan, Friend & Acquaintance.

She passed away in the early hours on Monday (22nd June) after a short stay in Hospital.

Monica was very well known round Birchington during the 90 long years of her life, from a baby to the elegant lady everyone knew.

She was a firm fixture at Birchington Primary School for over 50 years - as a Dinner Lady, Cleaner, Lollypop Lady, Milk lady, Assistant Caretaker, and General Volunteer. She was also a Life Vice-President and longtime supporter of Birchington Silver Band, for close to 60 years.

In the early years of her life, Monica was involved with the local Brownies, Guides and British Red Cross. She was also a a regular at The Bay United Reformed Church (Minnis Bay), a church close to her heart.

In amongst all this, Monica was most well known for her love, care, wit, humour, and huge personality, always stopping to talk to anyone she saw.

Monica leaves behind a very large family, and her beloved cat, Topsy. She is now back with her shadow, David.

We will miss her immensely!

As a stalwart of Birchington, we know many locals had a fond memories of Monica.

Several people have asked how they can help, so we have set up this fundraiser. Any donation is welcome, with funds raised helping towards giving Monica the best send off possible. 

Any remaining funds will be donated to charity.
