Mongol Derby 2022: Margaret is In It To Twin It
Margaret is an equine vet tech who thrives on adventure! This is probably why she agreed (when her twin sister asked her) to ride 1000 km through Mongolia on semi-domesticated horses in August 2022. While Margaret is working her tush off to support her own fitness training, navigation and cultural research, and keeping her own mounts up and running, this half of Team In It To Twin It could use a little help paying for the adventure itself!
The Mongol Derby is known as the toughest horse race in the world, and race fees are steep—even for those brave enough to earn acceptance. Race fees support the incredible team that does the logistics work, the emergency medical teams for both horses and riders, the local people in Mongolia who offer their own horses as mounts to strangers, and Steppe and Hoof—an emerging nonprofit that supports traditional reindeer farmers in Mongolia and beyond.
Each and every donation brings me closer to the dream of completing and even winning this endurance race, and I’m grateful for your support! It’s been a tough year(s) for many of us, and if I’m being honest, there’s been quite a few unexpected expenses I’ve had to face this year. (Broken horses and broken trucks in particular make it hard to train for the Derby!) I can use all the help I can get. Everyone who has already donated their time and energy and training—you aren’t unnoticed! I will still need your support for the next year! But for those of you who are planning to live vicariously through my wild adventures, know that I intend to give you some good entertainment!
Some target goals and the video rewards to expect (bloopers will be included):
-at $3000: Margaret will Roman ride for you! There will be poles! There might be cantering!
-at $5000: Margaret will vault onto her horses. Possibly while they are running?
-at $8000: Margaret will jump off her horse into water. It will be a backflip if the water depth is sufficient!
-at $10,000: Margaret will do a FOXHUNT side-saddle.
at $13,000: top donor’s equestrian stunt of choice!
