Hello all! My name is Yusuf Lewis Jr. I am currently a third-year student at Morehouse College, the 4th ranked HBCU in the nation. I am studying Business Finance, with the dream to become an Entrepreneur, creating business avenues for myself and the Black community.
Within the last three years, on-campus I have been exercising my interest for business and passion for sneakers by creating a sneaker convention called “The KickHouse.” The KickHouse allows students the ability to buy, sell, and trade their sneakers and clothing amongst each other. Doing this I have been able to bring together a community of people with the same interests and give them a platform to expand their business and network amongst each other. This ultimately allowed them to profit alongside myself.
Despite my workings with The Kickhouse and other revenues of making an income, I am far from financially stable as a full-time college student. I am the oldest of 6 children and work strongly as a first-generation college student to set a path of greatness for my siblings. As the eldest child, I also work to take financial burdens off of my parents, to better provide my younger siblings with a better life.
I am currently working on fundraising a total of $4,000 for a school trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The time of the trip is Dec.13-22nd which is the time my parents will start preparing to provide my younger siblings a good Christmas. I normally would just ask if this could be a Christmas gift of mine but I know if they do this for me they won’t be able to provide for the rest of my siblings.
I want to travel to Dubai to learn about the social and political contexts of these rapidly growing Middle Eastern business hubs. I want to have the opportunity to compare and contrast how diversity is managed outside the United States. Most importantly I’m interested in having the ability be able to sit face to face, ask questions and receive knowledge about their industries of business that I can take with me back home and apply to become a better businessman in the U.S.
This trip will assist my overall goal in life to be an entrepreneur with nothing holding me back from partaking in foreign business as I aspire to be successful in and outside of the U.S. I want my college experience to be about learning and understanding. Traveling abroad is the next step for me to understand how life works while better formulating my place in this life.
I thank you so much for taking the time out to hear me plead my case. I appreciate any and every amount of money you choose to donate. If you find yourself unable to financially assist me in this journey, but still support my mission, I ask that you share this link around in hopes that the next person to come along will be able to do so.
