Money for John Pattavina's MS expenses

John Pattavina has been my friend for over a decade at this point.  He has a magnetic personality, and he is the type of person who can make you feel electric and alive.  Life is one big adventure to John, and if you’ve ever spent time with him, you have probably ended up in some peculiar/comical/downright bizarre scenarios.  I know that some of the most entertaining stories I have to tell feature John Pattavina as my co-pilot and partner in crime.  He is kind, and caring, and funny.  He is one of the most giving people I have ever met.  He literally saved my life once (a story for another time.)  But two days ago, John called me to deliver some news that I’m still reeling from; he had been diagnosed with MS.

In August of 2019, John was diagnosed with Relapse-Remitting MS (“It’s like best case MS! The one you want!”  He exclaimed to me, a true testament to his positive outlook, as well as twisted sense of humor).  After spending ten days in the hospital, he is back home but now constantly  experiences pain and numbness in his legs, which has rendered him unable to walk without the assistance of a cane or walker.  Consequently, John has had to quit his job and is currently unable to work, but is doing an admirable job learning to adjust to his new normal after his life was turned upside down.  He’s applied to a number of federal and state assistance programs. He’s enrolled in job assistance programs to help him find work that accommodates his disability.  He is taking classes to get his real estate license in order to support himself long-term.  However, all these things take months to process and complete and in the mean time we’re hoping to raise money to help John bridge the gap and support him in his already substantial effort to adjust to this new way of life.

I am hoping to raise $10,000.00 for John.  The money would help him pay his rent for his reasonably priced South Boston apartment which is both near a Red line T stop as well as ten minutes away from the hospital where he is being treated, which is crucial due to his now limited mobility.  His apartment used to be a place he used mainly for sleep or spending time with friends but now it’s become a much more essential part of his daily life.  Some of the money would be used to make his apartment more accessible and comfortable. I would also like to utilize a portion of the money to buy a computer with an internet connection to facilitate the work he’s already to doing the help himself. There have already been times where John has found himself out of his apartment and his energy has dipped much sooner than he could anticipate, making it extremely difficult, harmful and dangerous to get home by foot. Having extra money to be able to order a car with out hesitation is security that would help him go about his day with out worrying about wether or not he can make it home.

There are not contributions that are too small, every penny helps.  John is very comfortable helping other people and would never think to as others to help him.  I know he will be both humbled and grateful for any help we can give him.

If you would like to reach out to John, he asks that you do so by emailing him at [email redacted].
