Edit:
At the family's request, we are closing the donation period. If you are finding this page now, please, still leave any comments you might want to. Jason had many friends and the news of his passing will continue to ripple along for a while. I hope people will leave a note of what and who Jason was to them. Thank you all for showing support from afar.

Jason Muthig
9/2/1978 to 12/15/2022

It is with a broken heart that I come to share the news that I have lost one of my best friends. My loss seems so small when one pans out to the big picture. The WORLD lost Jason Muthig on Dec 15th, 2022.
Jason leaves behind His wife Kathryn, mother Julie, father Steve and sister Kiley. This list could go on forever, as Jason touched the hearts of many.
Jason had a health decline that is still a bit of a mystery, the end result was multiple organ failure. There is hope that more will be learned through a medical examination at UCSD Medical center.
I am here, asking for monetary support for his loved ones in whatever way you can. I have no idea where the medical bills stand at this point, as Jason had quite a long stay in the hospital before he passed. His wife is not only left with a broken heart, but a major loss of income and a partner who shared in all of life’s duties and obligations. I am hoping we can pull together and help ease the financial stress for a bit while his loved ones grieve.
Support may also be in the form of sharing memories to help with the grieving process. I am going to try to create a place where people can upload their personal memories of Jason, whether in story form or photos. Look for updates on that later.
I would like to tell a small story about my friend Jason.
I remember the first time I saw Jason. He was the new kid at Cascade Junior High School. He had tan skin (abnormal for us Washington locals) and was wearing a blue Adidas Jacket, with eyes and a smile that lit up the room. My first thought as I saw the girls’ eyes light up was, “This is going to be a problem!”. I viewed Jason as my competition! That is my very first memory.
I honestly don’t know when we truly met and became friends. I am guessing within a year or two from that point, either through soccer or snowboarding. Jason became one of my best friends, one I could count on for absolutely anything.
As the years went on, we were separated and rejoined at periods of time as we trudged through adult life. I remember how mad he was when I joined the Marine Corps. But as fate had it, he ended up at Point Loma University and I was stationed nearby at Camp Pendleton…the band was back together!! I was also lucky to have Jason’s family nearby. Steve and Julie were like second parents to me. I eventually moved on from Camp Pendleton and was living in Portland, Oregon. . Jason needed a reset and moved in with me…the band was back together yet AGAIN! After some time he was ready to get back to some sun. By way of Florida, he ended up back in San Diego.
This is where he met Kathryn (Kat). Jason and Kat wed in Aug of 2018. I can only assume, as many of us that became friends of Jason, she saw those eyes and that smile and couldn’t resist the power.

I ask you that if Jason ever touched your heart in any way at all, you consider helping the one that captured his heart, as she will have a great deal of heartbreak and healing to navigate. Maybe we can at least lift a little bit of the financial weight from her shoulders.
