Mondello24 Cycle For LotzC
Our Cause:
We are raising money to help send our good friend Ciaran Lotz for life saving treatment at the Williams Cancer Institute in Mexico. The total cost of the treatment is €140,000 and we have no time to lose so we are appealing for your help.
Our Challenge:
On the 16th October 2021 our Team of Vin Kiely, Martin McNamara and Stephen Tew are taking on the 24hr Endurance Cycle of the Mondello Race Track in Co. Kildare. As a team we aim to complete as many laps of the famous 3.5km race track as is physically possible. With your support we can help Ciaran get the treatment he needs. No donation is too small, please help however you can.
Ciaran's story:
Two years ago Ciaran was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer with metastasis to the Lymph nodes and hip bones. Since then the cancer has advanced aggressively and treatments available here in Ireland are no longer helping. Ciaran is a 45 year old husband and father of three children who in 2019 was a fit young man leading a busy and fulfilling life. He worked full time as well as being energetic and active, doing triathlons and living a healthy productive life.
Ciaran’s cancer is a particularly aggressive form which has now spread to his spine, skull and liver. The journey has been a difficult one, draining both physically and mentally. Since his diagnosis Ciaran has fought bravely and has always kept positive with the help and support of his family. He has been through a number of different treatments - some working for a while but most of them only having a short term impact as the disease is really good at adapting. The last hope for Ciaran is a ground breaking medical treatment being pioneered by the Williams Cancer Institute. This treatment itself attacks the tumours while at the same time creating an auto-immune response which teaches the body to fight and defeat the disease. The treatment is not yet available in Europe and the most cost effective location to receive treatment is in Mexico City.
The first round of treatment will cost $119,000 with additional costs of approximately $40,000 for general hospital fees for the four week long treatment. The treatment will then be continued in Ireland on Ciaran’s return which will come at additional costs. This is a huge amount of money to raise but we his family and friends who know Ciaran and know how much he has given to others over the years will do everything in our power to save him. We believe we can do it with your help. Please donate whatever you can afford, no matter how big or small to give a life line to this young vibrant man who means so much to his children, wife, family and community and who has still so much to give.
