Monaleen Parish Church Tower Restoration

Donation protected
The Parish church of St Mary Magdalene, Monaleen, Castletroy, Limerick, Ireland has begun restoration work on the Church tower to rectify a long running water ingress problem. The Church is over 150 years old having been constructed in 1873, and is a listed protected structure. The budgeted cost for the restoration work is €175,000 and the work is expected to take in the region of 14 weeks. The work commenced towards the end of July 2025 with the erecting of scaffolding and safety hoarding around the tower of the Church and the main entrance.

Mass and other services will continue during the restoration period.

Monaleen Parish applied for state grants under the Historic Structure Fund 2025 but was not successful in its application.

With attendances lower than in past decades Church collections are fully utilised to fund the operation and administration of the Church and parish. We therefore require extra funding and contributions to cover the restoration costs.

The Parish is raising funds through a special restoration collection envelope distributed at the Church. An appeal is now also being made to the diaspora from Castletroy, Monaleen and Annacotty and surrounding areas to help fund this necessary restoration where many were baptised, made their first communions, confirmations, weddings, family funerals etc., and also to the wider community.

All proceeds from this appeal will be transferred to a Monaleen Parochial bank account to fund the restoration work.

Monaleen Parish thanks you for your kind support to this restoration fund which will help to extend the life of this historic parish structure.
