Hi everyone -
I've been debating about whether or not I should do a Go Fund Me page about a very traumatic and terrifying incident that happened to my mother on Mother's Day.
At first, I was against the idea of doing this, but now it seems that maybe this is the best thing to do and let people know what has happened as everthing is starting to become overwhelming. The grand scheme of what has happened is starting to come into focus.
First and foremost, my mother is ok and safe.
On Sunday morning at about 4:00am, the house that my mother has lived in for over 26 years caught fire and is a total loss as well as for all of her possessions. The only material items she got out with were the clothes she was wearing when the fire broke out.
As of today (5/20/17), we don't have any idea how the fire started. There will be an investigation, but we don't even know how long it will take to get answers.
It took firefighters about 40 minutes to put the fire out and the devastation it caused to the house is incredible. Walls that have stood in her house have completely disappeared. There is a gigantic hole in the roof that had to be cut to vent all the smoke and heat.
My mother has a very rough road ahead of her at the age of 82. The challanges she is facing right now seem insurmountable. I cannot even begin to imagine having to start life over again in your 80's. She will needing everyting from a new place to call home, furniture, clothing, a bed, dishes, silverware, pots and pans, a microwwave, and towels. Bassically, everything you find in the average home, will need to be replaced.
Be safe out there in all you do people. Life can change in an instant. You never know how close you can get or how quick you can lose your possessions or a loved one.
