In May 2022, my mom was informed by her physician that the condition of her lungs was not improving. In September 2022, the AdventHealth Transplant team determined that she was a lung transplant candidate. Since that time, she has undergone a battery of stringent tests to ensure she would meet the criteria to be placed on the transplant list.
On February 22, 2023, we were notified that she has been placed on the lung transplant list!
Here is a breakdown of the projected out-of-pocket costs:
- Health Insurance for 1 year: $12,000
- Hospital Co-Pay: $20,000
- Post Transplant Medication for 1 year: $9,600
- Rehab for 1 year: $2,500
- Follow Up Doctor Visits 1 year: $700
- GoFundMe fees (3% + 30¢ per transaction): $2,000
