My mom, "Joyce Jenkins," enjoyed 65 years of life. Her love language was acts of service and giving/receiving gifts because we had very little quality time with her growing up. She always did everything she could as a single mother, even until her last days. She was always praying, buying gifts or sending money, or doing whatever she could to help her loved ones, and she LOVED THE WORLD! She was devoted to ministry work and always gave to the homeless, even when she lost her home.
In 2021, my mom lost her mother (my grandmother), which led to her heart attack right before 2022. She had an open heart surgery in which a stent was placed to assist with blood flow. A few weeks after leaving the hospital, she gets into a bad car accident. The hospital released her, saying she would be alright; a couple of weeks later, in March, she was found unresponsive on her bedroom floor. They discovered she had fractures in her shoulder and bleeding in her brain. She had open brain surgery and was placed on bed rest for three months.
When she was released from the nursing facility in May 2022, she wasn't able to care for herself; she was denied in-home care service, someone scammed her for her mom's inheritance money, and the government denied her funds for shelter and food. I told her I'd step up and help with washing clothes, groceries, and, you know, the things she did for me at one point. She passed away from a second heart attack on September 20th. My mom gave the world all she had, and it kills me to know that the system failed her and I couldn't give to her when she needed it the most.
Giving her a proper celebration of life is something she deserves, but I need your help. Her memorial will be on November 5th at 1 pm.
