Hello. My name is Brandy Bielaski. I have signed up for Go Fund Me in hopes of raising funds to help support my parents through the most difficult time of their lives.
I am a Registered Nurse and I have been working in Chemotherapy (Systemic Treatment) at the Northeast Cancer Centre for 9 years. I have cared for and supported many people throughout their cancer journey in that time. It breaks my heart to say that it is now my family who needs the help.
My mom Wanda was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic small cell lung cancer in January 2022. My mom is 63 years young. Too young for the prognosis she has received- unfortunately something I see far too often. This is not a curable Cancer - and all we can do is fight each day to have more time with her.
When we (myself, my three older brothers and my parents) found out about my mom's prognosis, my father stopped working and will transition to retirement this month. Although this should be a happy time for them- retired and loving their 'golden years' they are instead facing my moms palliative diagnosis and grasping at more time together.
Since the beginning of January 2022 mom has already undergone radiation to her hip and lung in order to provide symptom management and pain relief. She completed chemotherapy and is now continuing on immunotherapy until her diseases worsens. She most recently completed radiation to her brain.
We found out this week that my parents will need to pay nearly $3000 for their deductible for Trillium (for drug coverage now that my father will be retired- and after months of not working). I am hoping to raise the money to cover this cost.
Mom has always been one to give. She would give the shirt off her back for her children and grandchildren. My parents have never been wealthy, but have always done their best to provide for us and give us a happy life growing up. That being said- mom always put her self last and never had the money to fulfill any of her dreams.
My mom has not been much of a traveler but has talked over the years of different trips she dreamt of taking. She has mentioned Mardi Gras in New Orleans, beach walks in Barcelona, and sightseeing in Bali. Although she has never traveled to any of these places she did live in Prince Edward Island for a short period in her young adult life. She has recently talked about how nice a trip to Prince Edward Island would be to reminisce about her younger years.
I would love to send mom for a trip to Prince Edward Island while she still has time and has the quality of life to make the trip. So I am also hoping to raise the funds for my parents to be able to go on this trip as they are not able to afford it themselves.
I truly appreciate that you took the time to read this letter. If you can donate anything we would be so grateful. And if you can't, I am still so thankful that you read about my beautiful mother. The heart and soul of our family.
Sincerely,
Brandy Bielaski
