7/25/22: Mom is now receiving hospice care. It is going very well and is an extra layer of support that is so helpful. Today we celebrated her birthday. I am still striving to fundraise for my dad Bob. He is constantly worrying and stressed but is such a strong guy and has handled this so well

UPDATE: My mom is now in memory care. It was a very difficult transition but it’s for the best. My dad had to do a cash out refinance on his home and it covers a little under 2 years of care. We are working with a lawyer to help us navigate Medicaid and we are hoping that will approve. If it doesn’t my dad will have to sell his house which would be devastating. We are still trying to fundraise for my dad. I am sharing on behalf of my dad Robert Gaughen, myself, and my sister Kelly. This is really hard to do. My mom was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's at the age of 62 back in 2016. It was a devastating blow to our family and friends and a shock to say the least. My dad has been doing a wonderful job being a husband and caregiver. However, things are declining and unfortunately mom needs more care than we can provide. Recently my dad has run into some healthcare issues himself with his heart so this is a difficult time. We are actively working to get her placed into memory care in Billings Montana. My parents do not have any type of long term care insurance and she does not qualify for SSDI. We have applied for Medicaid and that is a very lengthy process, but hoping to have approval in the next couple of months. In the meantime we are seeking assistance so my mom can get the care she most desperately needs.
