Hi friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit. Our beloved one-year-old cat, Momo, recently faced a sudden medical emergency that required urgent and intensive veterinary care. The total bill came out to $4,800, a cost we simply can’t cover on our own right now.
Momo is the most loving, cuddly cat I have ever known. Now coming out of his kitten years, he is more cuddly than ever. He will sleep in my arms, above my head, on my face. When he was a kitten, he would crawl in my hair, and he still tries to, even though he is getting bigger every day. He is almost bigger than our small dog, Layla. Momo even has dog-like traits because of his big sister, Layla Our family is not complete without Momo, and without this care, he most likely would not have made it. He just turned 1, and he is so young.
Momo had a urinary blockage, which we did not expect at all. He showed symptoms around 2 days before we took him to the vet. I found him sitting in his litter box and then stepping out, meowing and hissing, and having not pooped or peed. He was also bloated. We thought he was just constipated. We even expressed his anal glands (which we’ve never done before… it’s stinky). His bloating went down tremendously after he vomited later that night, and we monitored him. The next day, when he still didn’t use the litter box, we took him in, and they said he had a blockage in his urethra and he couldn’t pee. This is extremely life-threatening if not treated early. The vet assumes he had this blockage for longer than when he showed symptoms because his kidney levels were extremely high. Even when the vet said they could clear the blockage, they were unsure if the kidneys would recover at all. This was extremely scary and saddening for us, and I prayed and turned to my community of friends and family for support.
Momo is still in recovery, and the vet just said his blood levels are looking good, and his kidneys should be back to normal by tomorrow. I’ve never been so relieved. I love my fur family so much, and I have learned so much from this experience.
Still, the cost of this experience was extremely high. Many owners surrender their animals to shelters or simply euthanize their pets because they cannot afford to cover these expenses. That was simply not an option for our family or for Momo. He has so much life, love, goofiness, and soul inside of him.
Anything helps, and we appreciate the support however you can
