Momo's Eye Surgery & Medication

Momo is my beloved 2.5-year-old male hedgehog, and my first pet. Over the past two years that I’ve had him, he’s given me so much joy. He’s a sweet little guy who loves his worms, the smell of fresh fruit, and cuddling beside me.

On the evening of Friday January 20th, I took Momo out of his cage and found his left eye swollen and almost out of its socket. We rushed him to an emergency clinic but were treated very poorly there (the vet proposed we remove the eye or “put him down—which is considerably cheaper”). I wanted to do everything I could to save his eye before considering removal.

We went to another clinic, and after four hours of waiting, we left home with some medication that would unfortunately not help Momo’s eye. Not seeing any progress I was able to take him into a specialist. The vet told me Momo's eye had a 20% chance of being saved. Taking any chance I could get, we left home with 4 eye and 2 oral medications that needed to be adminitered every two hours over five days. 

I was hopeful that this time we would see progress, however Momo began scratching at the eye despite my best efforts at stopping him. Removing the eye appears to be the only option I have now.

I love this little guy so much that I was and am willing to try anything that can help him. It saddens me deeply to see him like this. It is very hard for me to ask for help, however as a new graduate, these vet bills are really difficult for me to keep up with.

The past three vet visits alone have totalled to nearly $600 in costs. The estimated costs for the surgery are $1400-$1800. I know that this is a difficult time for many, but if you are able to, any donation at all would mean a lot to us and would be so much help.
