Hi, I’m Maisie Pines, a filmmaker getting my BFA in Film & Television at DePaul University. I grew up in Urbana, IL, where I spent endless hours watching horror movies and writing stories that reflected the cynical way I see the world. When I got to college I finally got to make those stories come to life. I’ve produced a myriad of projects in film & media as a director, writer, and production designer in Chicago. I love creating films and telling stories based around women's experiences through a psychological horror lens that dramatizes the human condition and encourages discomfort.
My newest film “Mommy Issues” is the second large-scale short film I will direct and my senior thesis film, signifying the end of my college career. The story follows a young woman named L that arrives home from her mothers funeral, where she decides to take a hallucinogenic drug to understand why her parent committed suicide. It’s a grim psychological thriller that explores the complex dynamic between mother and daughter and how the guilt of not getting to know the people you love before you lose them can affect your mind.
I’m currently raising funds to make the production of this film a reality, any support makes a huge difference. Your donation will directly aid in the creation of “Mommy Issues,” a story that’s been burning a hole in my head for months!
