My Mom’s Battle
Donation protected

My mom is 47 years old and has been sick on and off for a few years. She has been to see doctor, after doctor and no one could ever explain or give her answers. On June 7th my Aunt (Angel, her sister) called me and told me that she took my Mom to her PCP and they sent her straight to the E.R. (Tennova in Clarksville was the closest and it was an emergency) And from there the hospital placed her in the ICU within a few hours. She was also put on a ventilator because her vital signs were basically nonexistent at this point. After lots of tests, they found a kidney stone that had been blocking a portion of her urerter and caused a kidney infection which eventually led her body to septic shock. She was on life support and they were able to place a stint in, which helped the immediate emergency for the time and we even had hopes she would be off the ventilator the following morning. That night she started to decline very rapidly. The ICU nurses couldn’t keep her oxygen up and her vital signs had started to plummet. They did some further tests and she had developed pneumonia which turned into severe ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome also known as “Wet Lung”) which is extremely dangerous and caused her to deteriorate very fast. They started the necessary procedures to help, however, she wasn’t responding very well. She was fighting the ventilator and couldn’t stay sedated. They decided to try a paralytic drug to paralyze her in hopes it may calm her and help her get the medicine and help she desperately needed. This definitely kept her alive. My Aunt Angel and I wanted to have her transferred to Centennial as they are a great hospital in Nashville for everything pulmonary. However, the doctors at Tennova advised us that she might not survive the transfer. Throughout the night the staff was able to get her vitals stable and we were accepted by a physician at Centennial Hospital. She was successfully transferred on June 13th. Today is day 9 on life support and she is continually fighting and making improvements little at a time. We are taking each day at a time. Her chest x-ray is improving and all of her levels and kidney functions are returning. They are unsure how much longer ventilation will be needed and how her recovery will be at this time.
I want to thank everyone who has called and checked in on me and my family. Your generosity and thoughtfulness is so appreciated and you all have helped me through a time I wasn’t sure I could get through. I want to ask that you not only keep my mom and family in your thoughts, but ask that you especially keep my younger sister (Mackenzie 17yo) and brother (Kobe 14yo) in your hearts during this time.
Many people have asked how they might help or have asked where to send flowers. The ICU will
not accept flowers so myself, along with my Aunt Angel ask that you instead might help us provide for my baby sister and brother. I have started a GoFundMe and every donation received will be put towards bills, and caring for my siblings. Anything is extremely appreciated and helpful, even if that’s saying a prayer for us. The doctors are uncertain of how long we will remain in ICU on life support and in the hospital but one thing they do guarantee is that we have a very long road of uncertainty ahead of us. They are unable to give us any kind of timelines or a recovery process right now.
My community has been second to none during all of this, and I want to thank every single one of you for all of your help. The kindness I have received is something I will always remember!
Some have said they didn’t have a GoFundMe account, but wanted to donate. So, if you don’t have a GoFundMe, you can donate through PayPal and I will be able to transfer any donations to the GoFundMe account!
