Thank you so much for checking out my GoFundMe page! For those of you who might not know me, I’ll start from the beginning! My name is Kally Joy, and I am starting this page for my out-of-this-world mom, Kathy Joy. My mom has been recently diagnosed with Stage 3 melanoma cancer in February of this year. She went in for a check up and came out with 10 basal cell carcinomas, and 3 melanoma lesions. The lesion on her left shin was the worst and unfortunately spread to her pelvic lymph nodes. She had a skin graft done and a pelvic lymphadectomy to remove 3 of her pelvic lymph nodes. She was instructed to stay on bedrest for 3 weeks until these healed, which was extremely hard for her to do!  We then went through some hiccups, including her skin graft not taking, her groin incision becoming infected, and becoming septic. She was admitted into the hospital on Thursday March 30th, where she had blood taken for blood cultures, underwent anesthesia for surgery, and given antibiotics to fight this stubborn infection! Although I loved spending time with her every night in the hospital, I was more than happy when she was discharged on Tuesday April 4th to go home on oral antibiotics. Now that we are slowly getting over this obstacle, we have a few down the road! In the next couple months she will be receiving surgery to remove the remaining pelvic lymph nodes, removing the two additional melanoma lesions, and receiving four Immunotherapy Treatments. 


Knowing my mom- the hardworking, determined, loving, strong, goofy and beautiful self; she will cringe at the thought of asking people for support and help financially during this emotional rollercoaster! This is where I come in :) For anyone that knows my mom, they know she lights up the room when she walks in. Our last name, Joy, couldn’t fit her better. Kathy is the kind of person that will help anyone in need, put everyone in front of herself, does everything to make our family better and happier, financially supports our family, and goes above and beyond at doing even the simplest tasks. And now it’s time for us to help her as much as we can. Due to the amount of appointments, surgeries and complications that have happened so far, and the procedures still needed, my mom has had to take off a lot of work. Unfortunately, insurance is denying a large portion of our medical bills, and as of now we can’t afford the immunotherapy, which overall fights the cancer. As you can imagine, this is extremely draining on our family. Our family is in need of all the support we can get to help her kick cancers ass!! Our family is overwhelmed by the prayers and thoughts that have been sent to us the past month, and I’m taking a leap by going out of our comfort zones and asking for financial help through all of this as well. I can’t explain how thankful I am for my mother, the rest of our family, and the enormous amount of friends that support us through this fight.
