Mom& Son fight cancer together: Amy& Landen Sapien

Landen was diagnosed with ALL leukemia T cell on 6/29/19. His type of leukemia is rare. It has a harder treatment, longer by a year, higher chance of relapse and lower survival rate than typical leukemia. He will complete treatment in Nov 2022. He continues to take daily chemo pills, IV chemo 1-6x mo, one week of steroids each month, and a quarterly spinal tap to shoot chemo into his brain. Landen loves his younger brother Corben, puppy River, pet tarantula, Lightening hockey, Pokémon, Minecraft, paleontology and fishing. He is a gentle soul, other focused and empathetic. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He has fought bravely and with almost no resistance to what’s been asked of him. His dreams of returning to a new normal have been shattered by covid. He has returned to school virtually but remains physically isolated. Landens Mom, Amy, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2020 at 40yo. She has undergone a mastectomy and chemo and has a hysterectomy and hormone suppression before the end of 2020. Amy is a social worker and finding solace in advocacy and raising awareness. She has faced treatment physically alone because of covid. She endured chemo with scary breathing reactions. She’s a pretty tough cookie. Additionally our house has been in a state of constant expensive repair since purchasing it in spring 2019. We now face being relocating for the bulk of the winter as the damage from mold in the bathroom was so bad they need to replace exterior walls. We face all this under the threat of covid. Two family members who are immune compromised in the middle of a pandemic. We are unable to accept informal support like a meal, lunch date or even a hug. We are weathering the storm with only the boys grandparents for in person support. Financially we are facing $42k in medical bills plus unpaid leave plus house repairs just to keep us safe and stable with the kids. Any contributions will go towards that cause.
