Our mother Zandra was a fighter. She was born and raised in Brooklyn during times when it was unsafe to walk alone at certain times of the day. She raised five children and although we were underpriviledged, always made sure we had what we needed and would often go beyond and get us the things we wanted.
She was a fighter because although life often hurled obstacles at her and her family she always found a way to overcome and to see the positive in it, an important life lesson we have all kept in life.
She was a fighter because at age 50 she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, meaning she had been unknowingly battling it for years. Sadly we found out less than a month ago and started treatment last week. As we all tried to make sense of the severity of the situation she just smiled at us and said "don't worry I will make it."
Unfortunately life had other plans for her.
As they say in a lot of religions she is now resting in peace and We'd like to believe she is in a better place. Life is full of struggle and triumph, battles won and battles lost but Mom, you don't have to fight anymore.
Please help us send her off by donating what you can. I understand not everyone is in a position to donate but any amount helps and will be appreciated.
If through your generosity we are able to generate a surplus of funds, whatever is carried over will be donated to cancer research.
Thank you so much for reading and for your support!
