Mom and child in Tallahassee.

A hard-working mom and young daughter in Tallahassee have touched my heart. Can you help me help them?

They are fleeing domestic violence and cannot go back home. They are moving forward and building a new life.

Mom *will* be able to get back on her her feet. She is working 2 jobs. Paychecks are 2 weeks out. She is also in school to get a higher credentialed degree that will lead to higher pay.

Right now she needs a boost to get her and daughter into safe, stable, housing. The day-to-day instability is terribly stressful especially for the child.

Mom is doing everything right. She filed reports with police about the abuser. She has applied for every service. She follows up. She's doing everything she can. But the system is underfunded and overloaded.

Everywhere is waitlisted, or out of funds, or no one answers. I've been calling myself as an advocate and this is the truth. This woman keeps 2 jobs AND get her young daughter to school *every* day AND makes phone calls and emails every day to advocate for housing and assistance. This is incredibly hard.

I arranged short term hotel vouchers, because the time she had at Refuge House was not long enough to secure housing. The referrals they provided for housing require more things like first month AND security and often more and despite working 2 jobs. She doesn't have it yet all at once.

The hotel vouchers were just a couple days. Tonight they may sleep in the car. A mom and young child. It could have been me. It could be any of us. It could be the kid at your kids school, just the next desk over.

I'd love it if people could chip in to fill the gap.

Personally, I'm sitting here poll watching on election day as I write this. This story is why I am here.

I'm kind of exhausted from trying to help the good guys win. I'm also working and parenting my own child. In the mix of this- this mom and child- a friend of a good friend- have come into my life. I just can't turn away. In the sea of suffering there are individuals who touch us. If we lift up now, I think this mom and child will make it.
