It has been over 10 years since Molokai has fielded a high school girls soccer team. This year we are bringing it back, but we need your support to make it happen.
We can't become an officially recognized (and funded) high school sport until we prove that we have the commitment and capacity to operate as a competitive club. That means we don't have any funding to cover travel, but we need to get our players to Maui to compete!
We recently lined up an opportunity to train and scrimmage with Baldwin High School and to play an exhibition match with Seabury High School. This is coming up fast on December 6th and 7th. We are organizing fundraising efforts, but will need additional support to pull this off in the short amount of time that we have.
Your donation will first go towards offsetting travel costs for the December 6-7 travel opportunity. If we have surplus, those funds will go towards needed equipment and a potential second travel opportunity at the end of the season in late January. Travel covers 14 players and 2 coaches.
The opportunity to bring back the high school soccer program is the result of many years of dedication and commitment from MANY individuals in our community (coaches, parents, alumni, school faculty, after school programs, players, etc.). We currently have 16 committed players who are practicing 4 days a week. Every player is passionate about the game and bringing their very best to each practice. Thanks to AYSO offering soccer to younger players for the past 4 years and Molokai Intermediate School running programs for the past 3 years, there is a growing group of players that will continue to feed into the revived high school program.
Soccer is a highly rewarding and physically demanding team sport that teaches teamwork, discipline, athletic skill, and strategic thinking. It also provides our high school youth with a positive extracurricular outlet and confidence-building athletic activity. This is the beginning to an important new chapter for sports on Molokai!
