In the Spring of 2022, our sister Molly was lying in her bed at night and decided to do a manual breast examination. Like most of us women with no family history of breast cancer, she did this inconsistently here and there, never expecting anything. To her surprise, she found a lump; it felt like a clogged milk duct, a usual sensation familiar to breastfeeding moms. Although not currently breastfeeding, she thought it might have something to do with her breastfeeding past. For peace of mind, Molly made an appointment with the OBGYN. The lump was unusual, and she was immediately instructed to make an appointment for a biopsy.
On August 3rd, Molly received the results of her biopsy, Stage 3 breast cancer. At 36 and with no family history, Molly was suddenly faced with the reality of what the next year will bring. Twelve-weekly rounds of chemo, twelve more rounds every 3 weeks, mastectomy, then more rounds of chemo.
To know Molly is to love her. Molly is the most genuinely kind, thoughtful and selfless person anyone will ever meet. She has maintained strong friendships throughout her lifetime and is still best friends with her grade school friends.
We cannot write about Molly’s character without mentioning how great of a mom she is to her two children, Franco and Mia.
In moments like this, we will never understand why bad things happen to good people.
It has broken our hearts in a million pieces to see this happen to our sister, the better sister, the kindest sister. We hope that with funding from this, she will be able to pay for her healthcare costs as she will have to take a step back from her new job (she started in January after caring for her two children). It’s not going to be easy, and she will have a long road ahead of her, but with your kindness and generosity, it will be one less thing for her to worry about as she goes through treatment.
Your continued prayers and support are greatly appreciated.
Emily and Jen
