Molly's Stroke Recovery Team
Donation protected
As many of you know, our amazing, fierce and loving mom, Molly McCauley-Falgout had a bleeding stroke on May 27th. The stroke happened in the front-right upper part of her brain. She has no use of her left side of her body as her right side of the brain was affected. She was moved a few days ago from ICU to a rehabilitation center at St. David's Hospital in Austin. She is having speech, physical and occupational therapy. Our family is taking turns being there to learn how to move her and how to help her in ways that encourage her to use her own growing strength. We are all quite in shock as our Matriarch and the rock of the family is in such need. She is still quite witty and is aware that she had a stroke and knows what is happening to her and has said, "sorry, that I am so dull right now"! We know her humor is in there even if she isn't laughing and smiling just yet! This is good as when she is frustrated in her therapy, we can remind her that the hard work will help the part of her brain that is affected. The good news is that she is alive, as 40% of people that have this type of stroke die immediately. We are so lucky to have her and we are all grateful that she is alive.
Now, comes the hard part of helping her create her path to recovery and independence. We know that most of her recovery will happen in the first 6 months to a year of her therapy and then the progress usually plateaus. Time is of the essence as we get her ready to come home. She will come home on June 22nd. We are rushing to be ready for her.
We are hoping to raise some money to help with expenses that can, most importantly, make our mom feel as comfortable as she can be, help with Billy missing work expenses, building ramps into the house, getting their house accessible to her in a wheel chair or walker, rebuilding her bathroom so that it is easy to use etc.
We have a crew of people coming for a few work days to get this stuff done.
If you have a few extra dollars to donate to Molly's recovery fund, please know how much it is appreciated. Everyone that knows our mom knows that she is always the first person to light a candle and be there for you when something happens. She has been there for all of us and we appreciate you all teaming with us to make her as comfortable and strong as she can be.
Sincere Thanks from the McCauley-Falgout-Pousson-Rosanbalm-Moore-Massey-Russell Clan
