On 8/9/2025, the unthinkable happened to the O’Neal family. Molly (16) and Brian were running a simple back to school errand when they were involved in a horrific car accident. It is truly a miracle they survived. Both Molly and Brian have critical injuries, have undergone multiple surgeries with additional surgeries planned, and are both still in the ICU. The road to recovery will be long, but they have both proven to be fighters. Aun, Molly’s mother and Brian’s wife, is incredibly grateful to the skilled EMS and trauma team that saved Molly and Brian’s lives.

I met Aun when we were new nurses, pregnant with our first babies 17 years ago. Aun is a one of the most passionate, hardworking ICU nurses in Kansas City who also traveled the US during the height of COVID. Aun has unfortunately found herself on the other side of healthcare advocating tirelessly for her beloved daughter and husband in the ICU. Aun is trying to keep everything together and as normal as possible for her younger son Max. There are a lot of unknowns about the timeline of recovery for Brian and Molly, but it will be months before Aun and/or Brian can return to work.
