In Memory of Mollie Daly

One week into out first rotation as PA students, on late Monday evening, I received a call from one my closest friends, Noelle, and that call broke my heart.

Noelle was crying as I heard her say that she won’t be able to go to her rotation given her mother, Mollie Daly was admitted to the Petaluma Valley Hospital. Upon admission she was unstable: hyperglycemic, electrolyte imbalance, high troponin (but normal EKG), increased lactate. Providers ruled out a heart attack, gave her 2L fluids and placed a foley catheter. In a few hours they noticed a decreased urine output suggesting of kidney damage. Providers declared Mollie was in a cold sepsis. She had to be transferred to ICU but was too unstable for the transport. At 4am on Tuesday, Mollie was transferred to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital ICU. There Mollie was diagnosed with aortic dissection and had to be transferred to a specialized hospital who can do the surgery. Upon consults, UCSF and Stanford denied, Kaiser SF agreed to take Mollie. After yet another transport, Kaiser’s providers stated that Mollie is not a candidate for any surgery due to having severe kidney and liver damage. They also found multiple strokes Mollie had suffered: embolic and ischemic in the frontal, temporal, and occipital lobes. Neurologist said she was unlikely to survive. On Friday, October 13th at 2pm, Mollie Daly was disconnected from the life support equipment and passed away.

Mollie was a loving mother of 3 children, a wife, and a friend. She was a strong soul and fought for her life and to stay alive. Please donate to raise money to support Noelle and her family in this unimaginably difficult time to cover the essential needs that her family has.
