Mold Strikes: Help the Irvines Rebuild Their Lives

My name is Kyla Irvine and on June 21st, 2025, my husband Nate and our 1-year-old son left our apartment knowing we would be gone for a month. We had originally planned a 2-week vacation to celebrate the wedding of my brother-in-law. Unfortunately, we had a death in the family that required us to change our plans. We left our AC on because a pet sitter came to care for our guinea pigs.

When we returned, we walked into a home FILLED with mold. Every piece of furniture, cloth or wood, the carpet, cupboards, small appliances, mattresses and box springs, our son's stroller and spare car seat, the walls, our dryer, clothes—nothing was spared. We were devastated and stressed but reached out to our insurance. We then received the news that our insurance doesn't cover mold.

We are now facing the out-of-pocket cost of not only cleaning our personal belongings but also the removal and replacement of most of our furniture. We aren't even sure the full extent of our damage at this time. Currently, we are staying in a hotel until we solve the furniture issue to get into a vacant unit at our complex.

We are swallowing our pride and asking for help because at this point we are struggling to find our footing amongst this mess. We already were coming home knowing someone had backed into our vehicle we left at home and now are facing this disaster as well.
